Promising three-year-old Blackie capped off a great 24 hours for trainer Michael Kent with a narrow victory in the Group Two Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Blackie's short half-head win over Fast Clip in the 1500m race was the Cranbourne trainer's third stakes win in the space of 24 hours following Montahlia's Listed Werribee Cup win on Friday afternoon and Domesky's Group Two Alister Clark Stakes success at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Blackie is now unbeaten in three starts since joining Kent's team after he was purchased by OTI Racing from New Zealand after racing twice across the Tasman.

While Domesky is headed to Sydney for the Tulloch Stakes (2000m) on his way to the AJC Australian Derby (2400m), Kent said he would have to let the dust settle on Blackie's Phar Lar win before deciding his autumn path.

Blackie is also nominated for the Derby.

"This horse has always been a nice horse and we had this race earmarked a month ago for him, so it's good to see it pay off," Kent said.

"He didn't travel that great coming up here, he lightened a little and it was only 10 days since his last start, so we'll just let the dust settle before we decide what we do with him.

"He's in the Derby but he's been in work since he came over from New Zealand. I think he's a nice horse in the making for the spring so we'll just have to discuss what we do with him now."

Asked if the Group One Rosehill Guineas (2000m) next Saturday was a possibility, Kent was noncommittal.

"We've got to have a think about it," he said.

Blackie settled midfield with Corey Brown in the saddle as the Gai Waterhouse-trained Halekulani tried to lead all the way.

Halekulani's stablemate Fast Clip moved up after straightening and hit the lead but Blackie warmed up between runners and stuck his head out when it mattered to get the better of Fast Clip.

Sworn To Secrecy came down the outside for third, six days after her Canberra Guineas second placing.
