Three-year-old Our Baby Bonus remains unbeaten despite struggling through the slow ground at Moonee Valley to win his fourth race in a row.

Apprentice Jason Maskiell said the Dash For Cash gelding had gears but was unable to get enough traction to go through them in the Adapt Australia Handicap (1000m).

Our Baby Bonus led from the start but got weary in the closing stages of the event to score by three-quarters of a length from Sunday Rose with My Girl Helen 1-1/4 lengths away third.

"He didn't handle the going at all," Maskiell said.

"He kept changing strides up the straight and was never really comfortable."

Our Baby Bonus was having his first run since posting wins last campaign at Bendigo, Caulfield and Moonee Valley.

Among his part-owners is injured St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt who was on course to see the win.

Our Baby Bonus will be entered for the Listed Creswick Stakes (1200m) at Flemington in two weeks and then target the older horses in the Victorian Sprint Series.

Trainer Mick Price said there was still a lot of improvement in Our Baby Bonus who has been in work 10 weeks.

"He has done a bit of water-walker work and had one 650-metre trial," Price said.

"I would have liked to see him boot clear and win by four (lengths) but I thought he got tired the last 80 metres and the second horse has a bit of form."
