Apprentice Nathan Berry has been taken to hospital for precautionary X-rays after taking a tumble from Light Horseman at Randwick on a day when senior ride Nash Rawiller also found himself in the wars.

Rawiller hit his head when pre-race favourite Devils Arcade lunged at the gate before Wednesday's How Now Handicap (1300m) and was stood down from the remainder of his rides.

Berry hit the ground hard when the saddle slipped and Light Horseman bucked shortly after the start of the Might And Power Handicap (1300m).

The youngster was conscious and moving his limbs but complaining of a sore neck.

The race, which was part of the Rising Star Series for junior riders, was won by outsider Tully Endeavour ($61) trained by former jockey Neville Voigt and ridden by Josh Adams who is based with Garry Frazer at Hawkesbury.

While the result was a surprise to punters, Adams was always confident during the race.

"He had it won a long way out," Adams said.

Light Horseman completed the course out wide, safely away from other runners and suffered no harm from his exertions.

For trainer Gerald Ryan, the Randwick meeting provided a small consolation for Melito's second placing in the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield won by Irish Lights when Code Word won the Rising Fast Handicap (1300m).

Code Word was the subject of a betting plunge from $21 to $10 and got the decision by a long neck from Parthian who made a late surge along the rails.

"It's some consolation, a small one," Ryan's foreman Brad Tyson said.

"Gerald has a big opinion of this horse and it was good to see him win."

Code Word is by sire of the moment More Than Ready out of stakeswinner Vocabulary who was runner-up to Reset in the 2004 Group One Futurity Stakes.

Berry's misfortune gave Mitch Beadman a welcome bonus when he replaced him aboard the Joe Pride-trained Sacred Choice to win the Ethereal Handicap (1400m).
