Gold Coast jockey Matt Palmer was taken to Brisbane's Mater hospital for X-rays after suffering suspected back and neck injuries following a fall at Eagle Farm.

Palmer, who suffered a serious neck injury two years ago, was speared into the ground when his mount Use To Be A Dancer fell shortly after the start of the Country Cup (1200m), won by the Lennie Wheeler-trained Kalkie Kane.

Brisbane Racing Club's chief doctor, John See, said Palmer was placed in a neck brace as a precaution immediately following the fall.

Palmer was treated for more than half an hour on the track which delayed the start of the following race and was complaining of severe pain in his back and neck as well as a sore left arm and shoulder.

"He was conscious but he had a lot of pain in his left shoulder and pain in his spine and left arm," See said.

"It appears he has escaped any serious head injuries but the pain he was having in his spine is a worry."

Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into the fall until Palmer can give evidence.
