The Berry twins will be aiming for a hat-trick of Razor Sharp Handicap wins next year after Tommy Berry emulated his brother Nathan by claiming the Listed race at Randwick.

Tommy Berry booted the Paul Perry-trained Prince Braeman to a surprise win in the 1200-metre feature.

Last year it was Tommy's identical twin Nathan who won the Razor Sharp aboard Rubinda.

But Nathan and Rubinda failed to beat a runner home in this year's race.

"A hat-trick sounds good and I don't care which one of us gets it," Tommy Berry said.

The win gave Berry his first stakes win and he was glad to do it on one of the Newcastle horseman's runners.

"Mr Perry has been a big supporter of mine and this is a horse I've had a bit to do with and I can't thank him enough for this opportunity," Berry said.

"I've worked so hard for this and it's a great feeling to achieve a goal like this."

Berry was made to fight to the line by veteran Jim Cassidy who rode News Alert.

The pair went at it in the final stages with the frontrunning Prince Braeman, who started at $20, edging out News Alert ($9) by a long head with Ego's Dare ($10) a length away third while $2.60 favourite Bank Robber was fifth under his big weight of 61kg.

Prince Braeman was backing up a week after a disappointing unplaced run at Rosehill over 1400 metres.

"Young Tommy thought the horse overraced the other day and had his tongue over the bit," Perry said.

"So I wasn't too worried about him today. I thought he'd run well, he's such an honest horse, he's been so good to us."

Five of Prince Braeman's eight career wins have come with a Berry twin aboard, three with Tommy in the saddle.

"He's a very nice horse and once he gets in front he doesn't like anything getting in front of him," Berry said.
