The Randwick trainer admits that in hindsight, connections made the wrong decision to press on to Queensland after All Silent was dogged by unsuitable wet tracks during his autumn preparation in Sydney.

"It was a mistake, no doubt," Begg said.

"At the time we thought it was a good idea, we didn't know the tracks were going to be so bad."

All Silent's bad luck with the weather followed him north and in the end he had just one start in Brisbane finishing third to Apache Cat on a heavy track in the Doomben 10,000.

It was a phenomenal run with All Silent coming from last on the turn and finishing almost on the outside fence as jockey Craig Williams steered him wide in search of better ground.

Begg subsequently abandoned plans to run his star in the Stradbroke Handicap when it became apparent the Eagle Farm track would also be badly rain-affected.

As a result of the winter campaign, Begg has run out of time to prepare All Silent for some of the more prestigious carnival races and he will be limited to two starts in the spring.

"The reason he will only have a light spring is because he only had five weeks out after Brisbane and we've run out of time to get him ready for some of those traditional spring races," Begg said.

The winner of the Group One Emirates Stakes last year, All Silent will go straight to Melbourne for the Gilgai Stakes in October before tackling another straight race during the Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington.

After that a trip to Hong Kong for the International meeting in December is a possibility.

"He'll be entered for Hong Kong and we'll see what happens," Begg said.

Stablemate Handsupfordetroit is further advanced in his preparation and will resume in a restricted race on Warwick Stakes day following two solid barrier trials, the latest when sixth to Phelan Ready at Randwick on Friday.

Handsupfordetroit finished second to The Galaxy winner Nicconi at Flemington in February then had excuses for his subsequent unplaced runs in the D'Urban Stakes at Caulfield and Randwick Guineas in Sydney.

"We ran him in the Guineas Prelude (D'Urban Stakes) but the track was too hard for him down there so we brought him back to Sydney," Begg said.

"We ran him in the Randwick Guineas but he drew the extreme outside and it was a farcically run race.

"He was four and five wide off a slow speed and it just didn't work out so we put him in the paddock."

Begg plans to give Handsupfordetroit another shot at stakes company this time in and has earmarked the Cameron Handicap at Newcastle and Shannon Quality as possible targets.
