Bart Cummings is looking for an improvement in track conditions to signal an improvement in Prince Arthur in the Stayer's Cup at Rosehill.

Strong winds in Sydney ahead of Saturday's feature race have track curator Lindsay Murphy hopeful of an upgrade from Wednesday's slow six reading.

Prince Arthur failed to stretch out when unplaced in the McKell Cup won by subsequent Brisbane Cup runner-up Ready To Lift on May 30.

Prior to his McKell Cup failure over the 2400 metres of Saturday's Cup, Prince Arthur was a closing third in the Lord Mayor's Cup (1900m) won by Penrickson on a good track.

"I think his last run should be forgiven," Cummings said.

"He just wants a drier track as does Sir James."

Sir James runs in a rating 86 handicap over 1900m.

The Peter Snowden-trained Imvula will run in the Ipswich Cup (2150m) in preference to the Rosehill event.

Imvula missed the Brisbane Cup due to the heavy track but reports from Queensland suggest the surface will be dead for Saturday's big provincial meeting.

Cummings' runners at the Brisbane winter carnival had their Group One ambitions thwarted by wet tracks although the conditions have suited a revitalised Kroner in Sydney.

Kroner has won four of his past five starts with three of those victories on heavy tracks including last Saturday's Listed June Stakes (1100m).

The Takeover Target (1200m) at Gosford on June 24 is the gelding's likely winter swansong.

Formerly the Pacesetter, the Listed Gosford feature has been renamed in honour of the champion sprinter who won the race in 2004.

"The wet tracks have been the right tracks for Kroner," Cummings said.

"He will more than likely go to Gosford and then have a break before the spring."

Carnegie House, trained by Anthony Cummings, also flopped in the wet in the McKell Cup but the trainer said he was confident he would perform better in the Stayer's Cup.

"The wet track was against him and he will run on Saturday on hopefully a much better track," Cummings said.
