Deltona's chances of winning the Stayers' Cup at Rosehill depend on a patient ride from Tim Clark with trainer Kevin Moses confident the gelding can handle the step up to open company.

Deltona is the second favourite behind Nuclear Sky for Saturday's $100,000 race following his second to Niwot over 1800 metres last Saturday week when he was ridden by stable apprentice Jamie Quinnell.

While Moses believes the 2400 metres is the maximum for Deltona, the gelding has a win over the trip as well as three placings.

"I think 2400 metres is as far as wants," Mose said.

"He got to the front too soon last time and had a hard run all through the race.

"As long as it is an easy 2400 and he doesn't have to do too much work he should be okay.

"His runs this time in have all been very good."

Moses trains Deltona for Don and Val Storey for whom he rode many winners in his former career as a jockey.

Quinnell has begun a two-week suspension after being unable to take rides at his advertised weight last week.

Stewards imposed the ban after Quinnell racked up a series of weight-related offences.

The Rosehill track was rated a slow six on Friday and Deltona's record on rain-affected tracks is also a plus with a win and four placings from eights attempts on slow and heavy.

He also has a win and three placings from six dead track starts.

The improved track is also a bonus for Prince Arthur who was a tiring 10th of 12 in the McKell Cup (2400m) on May 30 on the heavy surface.

"He just wants a dry track," trainer Bart Cummings said.

"I'm sure he will go better on a better surface."

Chris Munce returns from suspension at the Rosehill meeting and will be aboard Prince Arthur and his stablemates Very Grand and Antidotes.

Fixed odds betting on the Stayers' Cup through the TAB is not available in NSW but TAB Sportsbet in Victoria has Nuclear Sky at $6 ahead of Deltona at $6.50 alongside Tangalooma and Victorian visitor Diamondsondinside.
