The Gai Waterhouse-trained Bank Robber has another big weight to contend with in the Listed Carrington Stakes at Randwick on New Year's Day.

Group One-placed Bank Robber has 61kg in the $100,000 1100-metre feature which has attracted 12 nominations.

Bank Robber carried the same weight last start when 1-1/2 lengths fifth to Prince Braeman in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) at Randwick on December 19.

Prince Braeman had 53kg in his last assignment and has been given one kilogram extra for Friday's race.

The Con Karakatsanis-trained News Alert has second topweight of 56kg, a kilo more than he carried when a long head second in the Razor Sharp.

News Alert blundered at the start and Karakatsanis believes the gelding did a great job to go on and almost pinch the race from the frontrunner.

"He was lucky he stayed on his feet a stride after they jumped," Karakatsanis said.

"Jimmy (Cassidy) then had to give him a squeeze and he just overraced that touch."

The Group One-winning Rosehill trainer is expecting News Alert to fight out the finish again on Friday.

"He's done very well and there's no reason he won't be up there again," Karakatsanis said.

"Last start they didn't go really hard. I expected Bank Robber to come across but that didn't happen and they left Prince Braeman in front by himself."

The Clarry Conners-trained Dorf Command, who was 1-1/4 lengths fourth in the Razor Sharp, has 53kg for the Carrington.

Trainer David Payne has Winter King nominated for the race but said the colt would not run.

"This race is a bit stronger than I thought it would be so I'll save him up for the Canterbury Classic," Payne said.

The Listed Canterbury Classic (1100m) is on January 14.

Winter King went to Melbourne last start where he was third to We're Gonna Rock over 1000 metres at Flemington on December 19.

That was the One Cool Cat three-year-old's first start since his fifth to Rarefied in the Group Three Up And Coming Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in August.
