Bank Robber has been given the green light by stewards to run in the Epsom Handicap following an encouraging barrier trial at Randwick Friday.

The former favourite for the Epsom Handicap (1600m) Saturday week, Bank Robber was ordered to trial following his disastrous run in the Shannon Stakes at Rosehill last Saturday.

Racing NSW veterinarian Craig Suann Friday examined the horse immediately after his 5-1/2 length win over stablemate Impressionist in heat six of the morning run over 1050 metres.

Suann told stewards Bank Robber had pulled up in excellent condition.

The four-year-old led all the way with Epsom jockey Peter Robl aboard and turned in a performance that pleased Waterhouse.

"Peter rode him perfectly and is getting a nice feel for the horse which is great for the Epsom," Waterhouse said.

"The horse looked a very happy chappy and certainly prefers running at Randwick."

Bank Robber, who started the $1.45 favourite in the Shannon Stakes but beat just two runners home in the race won by Musket, subsequently underwent several veterinary examinations which found nothing amiss.

TAB sportsbet had Bank Robber as short as $5 for the Epsom but he has drifted to $11 after his last start flop.

"The other day things didn't go quiet his way, there was a strong wind blowing and he had to travel to Rosehill where he hasn't had any success," Waterhouse said.

"He's still maturing mentally and we are delighted with the way he's done this week and I certainly do not think people should give up on this horse."

Bank Robber gained automatic entry into the Epsom Handicap with his commanding victory in the Group Three Tramway Quality at Randwick on September 9.
