Yet another massive longshot winner for the PPD Club's Brian Blackwell - this time he landed THUNDERBIRD ONE 1st $21.30/$4.70 at Sale on Thursday. Only days before he gave members HOT MAMA $20.00. BB is known as the 'king of the longshots' and he just keeps on nabbing the big winners. In his preview of the Thunderbird One race, he named only 2 other runners - Murcielaga 3rd $5.20/$1.90 and Soros 4th $15.00/$3.90. The selections pulled in 3 legs of the $8,800 First 4. Here's exactly what BB told members of the PPD Club.
The raceday odds should be juicy enough to allow a bracket attack of (3) Thunderbird One 7/1 and (5) Soros 17/1 in race 9, heat 2 of the Winter Championship series 1400m atSale on Thursday. The NZ 5YO Thunderbird One has a terrible reputation as a barrier rogue so I guess we have to take him on trust. His formlines look most encouraging so if he does have a day when he's 'on song'; then he can certainly give this field a shake. His last start was in Grp 3 wfa class at Ellerslie 2000m on Nov 5 when he ran 3rd/11 to Zennista (0.5 len). That followed his 2nd/10 in Open hdcp class at Te Rapa 1600m on Oct 28. His 1400m record shows 3 starts for 2 wins and a 3rd. The Peter Moody trained Soros had no luck two starts back when 7th/16 at Sandown 1300m (RB90) on Apr 26, and after that he was 7th/14 Flem 1400m (RB96) following a slow getaway which wrecked any chance he had. He can improve sharply. For the exotics, (12) Murcielaga 5/2 has to be thrown into the mix.
