Melbourne Cup hero Dunaden is now looking more and more likely to return to Flemington to defend his Cup crown in 2012 and again take on last year's runner-up Red Cadeaux. That was part of the wash-up from the feature meeting at Deauville in France overnight where the Jean Romane Delzangles-trained Vadamar finished fourth behind Joshua Tree in the 3000m Prix Kergorlay and Red Cadeaux's trainer Ed Dunlop celebrated a career highlight with Snow Fairy's successful return to the racetrack in the Prix. Jean Romane Delzangles was circumspect about Vadamar heading to Melbourne. "He will come on from this run but he's only a four-year-old and I'm not sure he's quite ready for the Melbourne Cup. Maybe next year," Delzangles said. However, the Frenchman gave every indication short of declaring it certain that Dunaden would return to the venue of his career defining win. "We're leaning that way now," he said. "Obviously we were looking at the Arc but if he could win the Arc with 59 (kg) then he could perhaps win the Caulfield Cup with 57 or 58 (kg) and he's proven in Melbourne. I think maybe we will back and if we come, I think we would run in the Caulfield Cup," Delzangles said. www.racingvictoria.net.au

Latest news from trainer Ed Dunlop on Red Cadeaux and another Melbourne Cup run: "Everything's going well with him at the moment so we're looking forward to getting him back to Melbourne in good shape," he says.
