There's a chance, though, for Maskiell to have time trimmed from the ban if he attends counselling on a regular and consistent basis after a period of four months.

Here they come...The first group of international stayers targetting the Cups are due to arrive in Melbourne on Saturday week. There'll be 10 of them, headed by last year's Melbourne Cip winner Americain. Luca Cumani's team of Bauer, Manighar, Sahara Sun and Drunken Sailor are also scheduled to arrive next week, along with the German-bred duo Illo and Lucas Cranach. Anthony Freedman will train Lucas Cranach while Bart Cummings will take over the preparation of Illo. The Brian Ellison-trained pair Moyenne Corniche and Saptapadi are also to be in the arrivals. Hong Kong 3YO Bear Hero will arrive in Melbourne on Sep 27.
