EMERGING sprint star Lord Of The Sky was “staggering” after a dramatic W.J Adams Stakes at Caulfield - and jockey Glen Boss blames heat stress.

Racing Network reports: Boss, who rode the short priced favorite Lord Of The Sky, and Craig Newitt were critical of the time the horses spent behind the barriers before the race.

Boss said Lord Of The Sky, which compounded to finish 13th, was “cooked”.

“By the time he was in the barrier he was getting hotter and hotter. He lost it,” Boss said.

When he dismounted from Lord Of The Sky after the race the colt was “staggering”.

“The heat obviously got to him,” Boss said. “He just got hotter and hotter.”

Newitt described as “ridiculous” the amount of time the horses spent behind the barriers before the listed race.

He relayed his views to RV steward Wade Hadley as he weighed in after the race.

“Spending 10 minutes behind the barriers is ridiculous, I told them before it was too long,” Newitt said.
