'Allo, 'allo, what's all this about? The Australian's Brendan Cormick has raised the possibility that Black Caviar's UK trip might be scrapped. 'Allo, 'allo, what's all this about? The Australian's Brendan Cormick has raised the possibility that Black Caviar's UK trip might be scrapped. Yes, that is what he says in an article in The Oz on Monday morning. Cormick says: 'Less than 72 hours to go before Black Caviar leaves for England. That's if she goes...All I have been hearing from pessimists and doomsayers since last November is that she won't go to England for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. And, if she does set foot on the tarmac at Heathrow, the most popular racehorse since Phar Lap won't set foot on Ascot's hallowed turf. Only time will tell, but trainer Peter Moody certainly hasn't said anything in any one conversation across all media in recent months to repel the notions of the sceptics.'
Does Brendan Cormick know something that the rest of us don't know? Not really. Much of his article is speculation. He says: 'Peter Moody clearly doesn't want to go with this horse. He says as much...The owners have driven the up-coming episode in the life of an equine cult hero that has been 12 months in the planning. But Moody has the power of veto.' Of course, if Cormick's speculation turns out to be true then he'll be lauded for a racing writing scoop. If the great mare does go to the UK, as expected, then Cormick's article will be seen for what it is - a bit of a beatup.
Last year's Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden has run 3rd in the Group 2 Grand Prix de Chantilly (2400m) at Chantilly racecourse overnight. Dunaden was beaten by the John Gosden-trained Aiken, who led the field before holding off a stout challenge from Maxios.
