Well, we don't want to go through that again! Black Caviar just made it with her win in the Diamond Jubilee at Ascot. It was as nasty a finish as you'll ever see., Luke Nolen almost made a 'blunder from down under' by basically under-riding the champ for a few strides near the finish, allowing the two French horses to lodge a spine-tingling challenge. Luckily, Luke realised the danger and was able to rev up Black Caviar for another stride - and fall in to win. Will it be her last race? It could
Well, we don't want to go through that again! It could be. She raced below her best and she didn't look up to much after the race.
The British racing press could hardly believe their eyes as the final stages rolled out with Black Caviar just hanging on. Cornelius Lysaght, the BBC horse racing correspondent, says: 'That was probably one of the most dramatic races in Royal Ascot history. After all the hype, there was only a head in it. Black Caviar would have won decisively if jockey Luke Nolen hadn't taken it easy. He called it a rookie error and, while he hoped nothing would overshadow the victory, there's zero chance of that. All's well that ends well but we had our heads in our hands.'
What's next for Black Caviar? Will it be a sprring campaign in Australia or retirement? Peter Moody says: 'We'll get her home now and it's all about looking after her...She's never let us down, but she is a six-year-old and isn't going to improve.'
