He now has rides in three of the four Grp 1 races on Hong Kong's biggest raceday. He rides Melbourne-owned and English-trained Glass Harmonium in the 2000m Hong Kong Cup and Ortensia for Tony Noonan in the 1200m Sprint. Williams won the Tenno Sho, Japan's premier 3200m race, on Jaguar Mail earlier this year and was to have ridden him in the Melbourne Cup but the trip was abandoned because of Australian quarantine regulations. The popular Victorian jockey is currently riding for the Hori stable during his six-week contract with the Japan Racing Association, which ends on Christmas Day.

Verbals at close quarters...Luke Nolen and Lisa Cropp have been fined $200 each for a 'verbal altercation' after the Printhouse Graphics Handicap at Moonee Valley on Friday night. Lisa has a reputation as a woman who is never shy of sticking up for herself!

In other news from the stewards...Nick Hall is out for nine meetings on a careless riding charge from Saturday's Caulfield meeting. Stewards say Hall steered his mount Sulmita where there was insufficient room, causing interference in the early part of the straight in the Loch M Fraser Handicap (1800m). Hall pleaded guilty. Apprentice jockey Ben Knobel is also suspended for two careless riding charges. He's for nine meeting on both charges. The penalties are to be served concurrently.
