Turbo King powered to the lead in the 1010 Million Challenge and helped Happy Valley king Brett Prebble land another Jockey Challenge win with a treble last night (Wednesday, February 9). Prebble and Zac Purton were level in the Jockey Challenge coming to the last race and $160 million was wagered on Turbo King and Romantic City as they went toe to toe in betting and eventually neck and neck to the line.

"The handicapper has just about got Turbo King now, he's come a long way in a short time and probably done a good job because he's a small horse," Prebble said.

"Even though he's now in front in the Million Challenge he's only got the one chance left, and if he runs in a 110-85 race he'll be racing a better class than tonight and need to be right on his game to beat them

"The hard thing for him in the Million Challenge now is that the other leaders are milers like Fun Rider who have two possible chances to add to the tally."

Turbo King now leads the 1010 Million Challenge on 51 points, with Fun Rider (47) and Cheer (46) his immediate rivals for the $650,000 winners cheque.

The thrilling finish to the meeting with Turbo King downing the brave Romantic City by three quarters of a length capped a huge night for the Jockey Club's turnover figures - with the final total of $933 million the largest Happy Valley Wednesday fixture since April 17, 2002.

Prebble kicked the night off with a winning start aboard the Ricky Yiu Poon-fai-trained Metro Rider, sending the Tale Of The Cat gelding 1-3/4 lengths clear of Bless Us All in a dominant Class Five win over the minimum trip.

"Metro Rider has finally taken a chill pill, it has taken him a long time but he was more relaxed, he normally gets quite busy in a race but tonight he just did everything right," Prebble said. "As long as he keeps that mindset, there's another win in him yet."

A complete boilover in race three gave Yiu a winning double care of a tactful Zac Purton ride from barrier 12 which saw Classic Energy claim the Russell Handicap (1,200m) at 84-1.
