Punters might have their hearts in their mouths at some stage, but a wide gate might bring at least one blessing with Turbo King in tonight's Wayfoong Centenary Bowl (1,000m) at Happy Valley - a better price. The upwardly mobile Turbo King (Brett Prebble) stands out like the proverbial priest on a pile of salt in this race and would have been at prohibitive odds from a low draw.

But the inexperienced three-year-old came up with barrier 10 on the difficult "C" track and that might see more support for better-drawn runners to beat him.

Up in grade on his latest win in Class Four, Turbo King has looked a horse with a future in both starts this season over the same course and distance, racing wide when second first time out, then clubbing an average field last time. He tackles a race of good, tough sprinters rather than real stars and will have a weight pull on his main rivals, Ever Beauty (Keith Yeung Ming-lun) and Chevalier King (Darren Beadman), but they will have their supporters from good gates.

What Turbo King has in his favour is Prebble and a race that looks chock full of speed and it would be no surprise if he is ridden quietly in the early stages to negotiate a path closer to the rails before coming with a rush when the whips are out. Prebble already has the blueprint for these tactics, with his ride to win on Union's Star at Happy Valley over the same distance on the "B" course last January.

Also drawn in gate 10, Union's Star was taken back and across early, sliced through the field as he cut the corner on the home turn, then overwhelmed Happy Reunion and El Zonda - and he had 131 pounds on board.
