WHOBEGOTYOU might be the punters' pin-up for tomorrow's Stradbroke Handicap but for Sam Kavanagh stablemate Catapulted is clearly the favourite, reports The Age.

It says: The 24-year-old son of Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Mark Kavanagh usually runs the family's Adelaide stable, but has steered the Brisbane preparations of the Stradbroke contenders and admits there is a soft spot for Catapulted.

''He has been in Adelaide his entire career and is my favourite horse,'' Kavanagh said. ''I was with dad when he bought him in Adelaide and I have got a few people into him that haven't had that much luck before.

''We have taken him from a 75-rater to a group 1 placegetter this preparation, which is amazing because he nearly died of colic 12 months ago.''

Kavanagh remembers the day Catapulted dropped in front of him.

''When he was rolling around I was petrified,'' he said. ''The vet came over and gave him a drench and at the time he thought it might be a twisted bowel. He was rolling and colicking in front of us and we were fortunate that we got him operated on within a couple of hours.

''We had to nurse him back to health, so you get a little bit closer to that sort of horse. He has become the mascot of our Adelaide stable because everyone there has had so much to do with him.

''It was a great effort for him to come back and win one race. But he went further and won four from six last prep and is three from four this time with a group 1 second.''

Catapulted raced into the Stradbroke with a near record in the QTC Cup at Eagle Farm last Saturday but the winner of that race has never backed up to take out Queensland's biggest race.
