THE dream showdown between Black Caviar and More Joyous will not eventuate in the All-Aged Stakes this month but it could be a different story next year, reports The Age.
It says: It is believed the Australian Turf Club and Racing NSW had found a way to boost the All-Aged Stakes' prizemoney from $400,000 to $2 million but only if Black Caviar and More Joyous were to clash in the group 1 race at Randwick on April 23.
''It's not going to happen,'' said ATC chief executive Darren Pearce of the Black Caviar-More Joyous clash. ''Not this autumn and I don't think it will happen next spring because one is on a sprinting campaign [Black Caviar] and the another [More Joyous] is heading towards the Cox Plate. The first I could see it happening is the autumn next year and the All-Aged looks the obvious place for it. We are already working towards making it happen.''
Pearce revealed that the ATC will announce a new race for fillies and mares to be run at Rosehill on September 24. The club is confident of getting Black Caviar to run in it this year and hopes to develop it into a group 1 similar to the Golden Rose.
