A COURT hearing relating to a criminal investigation linked to dual Melbourne Cup winner Damien Oliver was held yesterday - but details cannot be revealed because of a suppression order, reports The Age.

It says: The champion jockey, 38, has been assisting police with the investigation, which is not linked to his stellar racing career. He has not been charged. Oliver is expected to return to the track at Moonee Valley tonight after withdrawing from four rides at Sandown on Wednesday.

Dayle Brown, general manager of integrity at Racing Victoria, confirmed yesterday that Oliver has accepted seven rides from trainers Lee Freedman and David Hayes and four other stables. Shaun Kelly of Racing Victoria, the body that governs thoroughbred racing in the state, said his organisation had no official position on the matter.

''We're unaware of the circumstances surrounding the matter and we've got no comment to make,'' he told The Age.

A spokeswoman for the Victoria Racing Club, which hosts the spring racing carnival at Flemington, said ''until something unfolds, we have no comment to make''.
