WITH a pool of three-year-old talent of the likes of Wanted, Headway, Black Caviar and Set For Fame, Peter Moody would never complain about the hand fate had dealt him with his young team this season, reports The Age.

It says: But the Caulfield trainer can still ponder what might have been if the giant-killing three-year-old team had also included his group 1-winning colt Reward For Effort, who was sidelined with injury.

''It's been tough that he's missed most of his three-year-old season, but he's back now with a great future in front of him,'' Moody said yesterday. ''It's been frustrating having him on the sidelines, but we can now look forward with him.''

Today, 469 days after his last start when Reward For Effort looked the winner at one stage before succumbing to the heavy conditions in the Golden Slipper Stakes in Sydney, the entire makes his racetrack return in the listed Monash Stakes over 1100 metres at Caulfield.

Moody picked out today's black type event for his comeback so as to give the colt a chance at adding a listed win as a three-year-old to his two-year-old record, which was highlighted by his breathtaking victory in the group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

But as he expects the Exceed And Excel colt to be in need of the run today Moody has also pencilled in a start in the the group 3 Bletchingly Stakes over the 1200-metre course at Caulfield on the final day of the season in two weeks.

''I've lost no confidence at all in his ability and I'm sure we'll all see that as his campaign progresses, but I can't say I'm overly confident he can go out and win this race off such a long time out,'' the state's leading trainer said yesterday.
