Dean Lawson predicted a bright future for Underestimation following that colt's classy win in Wednesday's Listed $100,000 ANZAC Day Stakes (1410m) at Flemington.
Despite carrying the top weight and dashing to the front a long way from home, Underestimation let his class do the talking as he went down to the post a good winner.
The son of Al Samer was a stakes winner at Moonee Valley in the St Albans Stakes on March 16 prior to a strong second placing to Big Chill in the Group Three Breeders' Stakes in Adelaide on March 31.
"He's always shown a bit of ability and the biggest thing about him is since day one he's always shown he will be a three-year-old," Lawson said."We're looking forward to the spring and once he grows up a bit between the ears we're going to have some fun with him."
Lawson feels that the colt will really excelt when his distances increase out to a mile or further.
"He just relaxes so well through the race and the best part about him, apart from his ability, the way he can travel deep into a race...Once the pressure goes on he can still travel for three quarters of a furlong before you let him down...Half the time that wins him the races because the others just get off the bit too soon," Lawson added.
The colt is shaping as yet another great value graduate of last year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale following his purchase by part owner Scott Cameron for $52,500.
