DESPITE his imposing record in the Blue Diamonds Stakes, jockey Dwayne Dunn will be watching the group 1 two-year-old classic from the grandstand on Saturday, reports The Age.
It says: Dunn, the stable rider for Lee Freedman, has had five rides in the Blue Diamond Stakes for four wins and a third - a strike rate that hasn't attracted the attention of owners and trainers with runners in this year's race.
With the barrier draw this morning, Dunn was philosophical yesterday about missing a race that he's made his own in recent years.
''Lee didn't have anything that was ready for the race and by the time I got around to seeking a ride all the good mounts had gone,'' Dunn said. ''But I must say that if I had my choice of rides the Sydney two-year-old Beneteau stands out as the horse to beat.
''I was taken with the way he got out of the pack and really went on with the job at Caulfield last time and a lot of my success in the race has largely come from horses that get back and run on.
''I find as a rule they run the race very hard to the turn and from there on they're all pretty tired and it can be made for a backmarker and I suspect this youngster will be in the pivotal position when they turn for home.''
Beneteau, the Blue Diamond favourite prepared by Paul Messara, galloped well last Saturday morning, said his Scone trainer, and will have his final hit-out tomorrow.
