Michelle Payne is hopeful unbeaten Blue Diamond Stakes jockey Dwayne Dunn has finally pulled the wrong rein.

Payne, 23, is chasing her first Group One win on Rose Darmore after Dunn chose the Lee Freedman-trained Maka Ena as the mount he hopes will give him his fifth consecutive Blue Diamond victory at Caulfield on Saturday.

Payne rode the Leon Macdonald-trained Rose Darmore in trackwork at Caulfield on Tuesday and is looking forward to her first Blue Diamond ride.

"It is exciting, especially as she is not hopeless," Payne said.

Payne has had her share of Group One rides in the past but admits very few have been genuine winning chances with her best result a fifth on Sparks Fly in last year's Thousand Guineas. She also finished fifth in Toorak Handicap.

Rose Darmore is $51 with TAB Sportsbet but Payne believes she is well over the odds after her first-up third to race favourite Rostova ($2.60) and Corsaire ($26) in the fillies Blue Diamond Prelude

"I have watched her last two runs and worked her Tuesday morning so I know a fair bit about her," Payne said.

"Last start she looked as though she was slow to get going and when she got over racing a bit Rostova left her.

"She chased hard and she finished off well and she feels as though 1200 metres will suit her better than 1100 metres the other day."

Rose Darmore has drawn gate seven alongside Rostova in barrier six which suits Payne.

"She (Rose Darmore) should just land on the back of Rostova and track her," Payne said.

"The way Blue Diamonds are run suits horses running on and she should be in a perfect position to be finishing off.

"The two favourites (Rostova and $3.20 chance Real Saga will probably be too good but you never know, things can happen on race day."

Macdonald produced $101 chance Rebel Raider to beat odds-on favourite Whobegotyou in the 2008 Victoria Derby.

Dunn has had four Blue Diamond rides and won the race the last four years on Undoubtedly, Nadeem, Sleek Chassis and Reaan,

Maka Ena is his first ride in the race for Freedman and is $31. His past winners averaged $16.
