Dwayne Dunn may have to find a mount outside the Lee Freedman stable to attempt a fifth successive Blue Diamond Stakes win.

Freedman has five of the top 13 qualifiers in the Blue Diamond at Caulfield on Saturday but his only confirmed runner is Come Hither, who will be ridden by Darley's stable jockey Kerrin McEvoy.

Freedman has ruled out the fancied Essaouira, Tariks, and Exceedingly French for Victoria's premier two-year-old race. This leaves Maka Ena, a $51 chance with TAB Sportsbet, the last stable hope for Dunn.

A decision on a Blue Diamond start for the Exceed And Excel filly will be made after Dunn rides her in trackwork at Freedman's Rye property on Tuesday.

"It is an unusual situation in a year where we have so many decent two-year-olds that Dwayne may go without a ride for us in Blue Diamond," Freedman said.

"Obviously he is keen to ride a stable runner because our two-year-olds have been going so well but given Kerrin is riding Come Hither the only opportunity for him is if we run two in the race."

Freedman said Maka Ena needed to impress in a track gallop to be the stable's Blue Diamond second string.

"Dwayne is happy to wait on the sidelines until after trackwork in the morning when will gallop Maka Ena, have a feel of that filly and see what he thinks," Freedman said.

Maka Ena has raced twice for a win at Moonee Valley in December and fast finishing five-length fourth to Rostova in the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Caulfield on January 26.

"She is a pretty smart filly and ran very well in the preview," Freedman said.

Final acceptances for the Blue Diamond will be declared on Tuesday morning.

Dunn is unbeaten in four Blue Diamond Stakes rides on Undoubtedly for Mark Kavanagh in 2005 and the David Hayes-trained trio of Nadeem (2006), Sleek Chassis (2007) and Reaan (2008).

The Leon Macdonald-trained Rose Darmore, who was third to Rostova in the fillies Blue Diamond Prelude, is a possible standby ride for Dunn should Freedman decide against running Maka Ena.

Freedman said Essaouira, a six-length debut winner at Moonee Valley earlier this month and regarded as Freedman's best Blue Diamond chance at $8, would not run and will be aimed at the $252,000 The Inglis Premier (1200m) at Caulfield a week later.

Exceedingly French will run in the Listed Pol Roger Stakes (1100m) on the same day.

Tariks, who ran second Come Hither in the Talindert Stakes at Flemington, will be rested after her narrow second in Adelaide last Saturday.

Freedman said Come Hither ($10) would be fresh horse in the Blue Diamond and rates her a genuine threat to upset $2.70 favourite Rostova and colts and gelding Prelude winner Real Saga who is at $3.

"Behind the two favourites I think she is certainly on the next rung of horses you want to keep an eye on," Freedman said.

Freedman is chasing his fourth Blue Diamond triumph after wins with Knowledge (1997), Danelagh (1998) and Alinghi (2004).
