THE 2007 Melbourne Cup winner Efficient makes a brief return to racing on Saturday when he steps out for the first and only time this autumn in the 1200-metre listed Henry Bucks Straight Six, reports the Sydney Morning herald.

It says: The five-year-old, which missed last year's Melbourne Cup with a joint injury, will carry 63.5 kilograms at his first try at 1200m.

Major part-owner Lloyd Williams told Steve Moran's Racing Central this week that the grey was working strongly but needed to get into a race. "We need to give him some game time," Williams said.

Trainer John Sadler took Efficient to Sandown last Saturday for a gallop and the team was pleased with his efforts, but Williams said the horse would have just one run this campaign before a short break. He would then come back to work for another tilt at the Melbourne Cup. Williams reported that Zipping and C'est La Guerre would be both back in the stable next week after brief autumn campaigns to prepare for the spring carnival.

Meanwhile, Hissing Sid steps up to the Melbourne Cup distance for the first time in the $200,000 Ramsden Stakes, and while nobody yet knows whether the four-year-old will stay the trip, his family background suggests he may. Hissing Sid, which has won six of 13 starts, including last week's Warrnambool Cup, was bought by Bill Wilde for just $25,000, as his immediate family had little to boast about. But his great granddam Deck The Halls certainly knew how to stick on over ground.
