TRAINER Danny O'Brien's promising four-year-old Cabeza gave a hint of what the future might hold with an impressive win in the Life Saving Plate at Flemington yesterday, reports the Sunday Age.

It says: Cabeza had always shown ability and O'Brien said the son of Zabeel ''lost his way'' last winter when on a Queensland Derby campaign, but has shown marked improvement since being gelded at the end of that preparation. Ridden by Jason Maskiell, Cabeza ($1.90 favourite), who was coming off a record-breaking win at Moonee Valley, raced handy all the way before scoring by 1╝ lengths from Kert ($14) who trailed him throughout.

''When he broke the track record the other night, you get a bit excited but always want to see them back it up again the next start,'' O'Brien said.

He has no grand plans for Cabeza, who is likely to run over 2000 metres at Caulfield in a fortnight, but said that, on potential, he compared favourably with some of his superior gallopers.

''Horses like Gallopin and Vigor have come through these summer races and ended up in Caulfield and Melbourne cups and I'd say he's every bit as good as those horses at the same stage of their careers,'' he said.
