CHRIS Waller will decide in the coming weeks where Queensland Derby winner Hawkspur sits among his bulging spring carnival contenders, reports TVN's Racing Network news.

Waller said Hawkspur, who provided him with an eighth Group 1 winner for the season, joined Foreteller, Shoot Out, Beaten Up, Brisbane Cup winner Moriarty and ATC Oaks winner Royal Descent in the upper echelon of his spring mix.

“It’s a hard one as they’re all putting their hands up,” Waller said.

“We’ll have a good sort-out in the next few weeks and try and be realisitic. We want to make sure they’re in the right races earning good prizemoney and at the same time if they’re going to improve make sure they’re in the big races as well.”

J.J. Atkins runner-up Zoustar is likely to be targeted towards the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on Derby Day at Flemington.

“With Zoustar, I still have my heart set on him being a sprinter like his father (Northern Meteor, who won the Coolmore),” Waller said.

“I think he'll be a better horse as a three-year-old.”

Waller said he would look to the Spring Champion Stakes with Vilanova, who finished a two-length fourth in the J.J. Atkins.

It was a ground-breaking day in many ways for Waller, who trained a treble at Eagle Farm, a double at Randwick and a winner at Flemington.

“I think the most pleasing thing out of everything yesterday, including the Derby and Brisbane Cups, was that we had success in three states,” Waller said.

“And, we were able to do that at a high level.”
