JUST one week out from jumps racing's most important three days of the year, the sport again kept its nose clean during a series of qualifying trials at Warrnambool yesterday, reports The Age.

It says: In all, six steeplechase and five hurdle trials were held and although one horse fell and another threw the rider and bolted through a fence, success in jumps racing these days is measured by serious injury or death and neither were reported.

Racing Victoria Ltd steward Rob Montgomery confirmed that the John Wheeler-trained steeplechaser Monymony fell in his trial but escaped with a minor shoulder injury and that fellow 'chaser Toulouse Lautrec threw his rider Trent Wells and went through a fence before finishing on a road. He received only a few scratches.

Only a handful of jumps trials and races have been held since the start of the season earlier this month and, importantly for jumps supporters, there have been no horse deaths or serious injuries.
