While Queensland Derby fancy Kutchinsky is in Brisbane for this week's Grand Prix Stakes, his older brother will be out to continue his rise through the grades at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Four-year-old Zanabaa will line up in the TJ's Champagne Bar Handicap (1900m) with trainer Anthony Cummings hoping the gelding can continue to improve on his last-start midweek win on Randwick's Kensington track two weeks ago.

Kutchinsky, trained by Tony Noonan, is currently the $6.50 equal second favourite for next month's Group One Queensland Derby (2400m) with TAB Sportsbet.

Cummings believes it is still too soon to test Zanabaa in better staying company but is looking to keep stepping him up in distance during the winter months in Sydney.

"He's taken a while to mature and find himself, but his last-start win was very strong and gave us a good indication of where he's headed," Cummings said.

"He might make it to higher grade as time goes on but for now we'll just take him through his grades and let him prove the point."

Zanabaa rounded the field from last to defeat Kubrick's World by half a length over 1800m in a Benchmark 70 on May 12, just his second win in 16 starts.

After that victory top jockey Nash Rawiller indicated Zanabaa was still a "work in progress" but gave the impression he would win more races over ground.

Rawiller retains the mount at Canterbury.

"I'm pretty pleased with him, he's trained on well since his last win and he should handle the ground okay," Cummings said.

"Nash got the best out of him last start and hopefully he can do the same for us tomorrow."

Stablemate Swarm is set to resume from a spell in the STC Members Mdn Plate (1200m), with Cummings keen to see the four-year-old start fulfilling some of his promise this preparation.

However, the trainer expects a wet track to play against Swarm on Wednesday.

The Tale Of The Cat gelding out of Surrealist is a half-brother to multiple Group One winner Racing To Win but is still searching for his first success, having been placed twice in his nine starts to date.

"His form on wet ground is not that great but he's at that stage where he probably needs to go to the races as long as the track isn't too bad," Cummings said.

"I'm satisfied with his work and his trial and looking for him to fulfil some of the promise he's shown.

"He's come back well but he's still a maiden and he's got to prove himself and get through his grades."
