Mick Kent has autumn carnival aspirations for You Think So but first he will try to win in town with the lightly-raced stayer.

The rising four-year-old will be trying to land his first metropolitan win at his fourth start in Saturday's W&P Truck Sales Hcp (2040m) at Moonee Valley.

The Golan gelding is in his second racing preparation having been spelled after running second to Sidecar at his debut in a Cranbourne three-year-old maiden in January.

He returned with a win in a Bendigo maiden (1400m) on May 19 before running on strongly for an eye-catching second to smart filly Midnight Martini over 2000m at Flemington on June 11.

Third in that event was Ulundi who won impressively over 1720m at Flemington last Saturday.

"I'll probably end his preparation next month and wait for the autumn for him. He's quite immature," Kent said.

After Saturday's event, Kent said he would run You Think So in a 2000m three-year-old race at Caulfield on July 16 followed by a 2400m three-year-old race at Caulfield on July 30.

"I want to give him a nice break in the spring. I think he's a relatively nice horse who's still really immature so I just think the autumn is for him. The spring will come up too soon," he said.

Leading jockey Luke Nolen takes the mount on You Think So who drew the inside barrier in a field of eight.

You Think So is the shortest-priced favourite of the meeting at $1.65 with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Lopov at $4.60 and Royal Katsu at $5.50.

Meanwhile, South Australian trainer David Jolly intends to chase black type in the early part of the spring with The Long Road after she tries to land her first Melbourne win in the Variety Bash Sprint (1200m).

The five-year-old Blevic mare, previously with the Jon O'Connor stable, won first-up for Jolly over 1200m at Morphettville on May 21 despite rearing at the start.

She again ran on strongly when third to Likable Will and Sheedy over 1200m at Morphettville on June 11.

Jolly has engaged Chris Symons for The Long Road who drew barrier six in the 10-horse field.

"The plan is to give her this run and then back off her for the early spring mares races," Jolly said.

"We might take advantage of a bit of residual fitness and tackle a couple of black-type races before she goes off to stud."

Jolly is pleased with the season he's having, registering 31 wins and currently trailing the leader John Thompson by two in the Adelaide trainers' premiership with a month to go.

Also back in work and being aimed at the spring are Group Two winner Goon Serpent, Group Three winners Budriguez and Streetcar Magic and Listed winner Cornelia Marie.

The Long Road is at $7 behind $2.90 favourite Rue Maple and Sneaky Tsu and Mythical Spirit, both at $5.50.
