Wordmaster could find himself on an ambitious mission against the likes of Group One winning sprinters Crystal Lily and Reward For Effort at Caulfield on Saturday.

Trainer Bennie Benbow has the lightly raced four-year-old nominated for two 0-82 races at Moonee Valley on Friday night but said his preference was to run him in the Listed $100,000 JRA Stakes (1000m) if he makes the field.

The gelding is the lowest rated (70) of the 21 entries for the JRA Stakes which is restricted to 16 runners plus four emergencies.

Wordmaster has raced only five times and has won two of his three starts so far this preparation.

After a six length win in a 1000m maiden on his home track in heavy going on December 9, he slipped behind on jumping away before finishing fourth to the brilliant filly Warm Love over 1000m at Flemington on December 18.

He then atoned with a win over Meddler and Verdasco in the Tauto Hcp (1000m), a rating 0-78 event for three and four-year-olds at Flemington on January 15.

Benbow thought enough of the win to include Wordmaster as a late entry for the Group One $1 million Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 12.

"He's a pretty handy little galloper. There isn't much of him, he weighs only 470kg but he's all muscle and he can run," Benbow said.

"If he can run within four of five lengths of the likes of Reward For Effort and Crystal Lily you haven't got a bad horse."

"I might accept for the 955 metre race at the Valley and at Caulfield and see if we get a run."

Reigning Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily, 2009 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort and Eagle Falls, runner-up to Wanted in last year's Newmarket, are all rated at 107.

Star mare Black Caviar, unbeaten in eight starts including a four length win over Star Witness in the Group One Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) at Flemington last spring, is $2.20 favourite for the Newmarket.

Wordmaster is at $101.
