Craig Williams will be trying to extend his unbeaten record on Amberino in the Listed Lord Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield.

Trainer John Moloney said he was pleased to engage Williams for the five-year-old mare as she attempts to enhance her pedigree with her first stakes win on Friday.

Amberino's last two wins have come with Williams in the saddle.

He first rode the daughter of Perugino at the end of her last campaign she when beat Sovereign Miss over 1400 metres at Caulfield on May 10.

Two starts ago he won on her again she beat Youthful High in photo finish over 1500 metres at Moonee Valley on November 29.

Amberino had her Lord Stakes lead-up at Flemington but apprentice Brendan Avdulla had trouble getting a clear passage on her and she finished a close fourth to Youthful High.

"She got back on the inside last start which didn't suit her but this is her chance to get some black type," Moloney said.

"She goes well for Craig and hopefully he can get her in to the right spot to come home."

Moloney said the Lord Stakes had come at the right time Amberino who has won seven of her 25 starts and $312,000 in stakes.

At her only two attempts at stakes level she was beaten two lengths when ninth to Neroli in the Listed Herald-Sun Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day and three starts ago was beaten 1-1/2 lengths when fourth to Bernicia in the Listed Summoned Stakes (1500m) at Sandown on November 15.

"They are not easy races to win but she is certainly in with an each-way chance," Moloney said.

Among her rivals on Friday is Ulysses, who Williams rode to win the 2005 Lord Stakes.

That year David Hayes trained Ulysses and the Lord Stakes was run at Flemington because of a reconstruction of the Caulfield racecourse.

Ulysses has regained his form since joining Luke Oliver's Caulfield stable a year ago to win three of his last four starts and Steven Arnold will ride him on Friday.
