Craig Williams is banking on history stacking up when he rides The Fuzz in Saturday's Group One Toorak Handicap at Caulfield.

Williams is keen on the chances of the David Hayes-trained six-year-old who he believes is weighted to win the 1600m feature at his third run this campaign.

A year ago The Fuzz won the Geelong Cup (2400m) but it is the gelding's win in the Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington last autumn that fuels Williams' optimism about landing the Toorak.

Last start Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner Orange County finished third in the Blamey, a fact not lost on Williams.

"He (The Fuzz) meets Orange County (57kg) 2.5kg better than when he beat him at Flemington so my horse is really well weighted (with 55kg)," Williams said.

"If we go back through the Toorak history it shows that only four horses have won with more than 55kg in the past 35 years."

They were All Shot (58kg in 1972), King Phoenix (56.5kg in 1985), Poetic King (56.5kg in 1996) and Regal Roller (57kg in 2004).

"It's proven that it is a light-weighted horse's race," Williams said.

"I'm glad he's drawn really well (in barrier three) and David has freshened him up for this race."

Hayes and Williams combined to win their first Toorak three years ago with Barely A Moment who carried 54.5kg to victory. He also started from barrier three.

Hayes said punters should judge The Fuzz on his first-up photo-finish second to Stavka in the Listed Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m) at Flemington rather than his last-start failure in the Group One Underwood Stakes (1800m).

He said that after the Underwood The Fuzz pulled up with a sore back which had since responded to chiropractic treatment.

"It has certainly fixed him," Hayes said.

"I would ignore his Underwood run and certainly be looking at his first-up run."

Hayes also has stable veterans Confectioner and Molotov engaged in the Toorak.

"They are all capable of putting their hand up but are very hard to predict," Hayes said.

The Fuzz is $15 with TAB Sportsbet as is the Peter Moody-trained Pillar Of Hercules who Williams rode last start when he flashed home from the back of the field to finish fourth in the Sir Rupert Clarke.

The four-year-old is at the bottom of the weights with 52.5kg and Scott Seamer has the mount while Luke Nolen will ride stablemate Annenkov.

"He (Pillar Of Hercules) is in good shape and it is the race we have aimed him at," Moody said.

"He didn't come up in the autumn when I trained him as a stayer but the mile suits him."
