Co-trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra expect a more patient ride from jockey Craig Williams on Response who is chasing consecutive Group One wins in Saturday's Toorak Handicap at Caulfield.

Williams shocked connections last start with a daring frontrunning ride on the four-year-old mare who held on to win by a long neck from No Evidence Needed in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Three weeks after the victory and Zahra still marvels at Response's feat and her ability to race against her normal racing pattern and win at the elite level.

"She had the hardest run in the race and still won," Zahra said.

"I know he (Williams) had to go forward on her but he kept rolling and never gave her a breather.

"I don't think he would want to be doing that again this week."

Response has improved this campaign and the Rupert Clarke was her third win in only eight starts.

But the stable has always rated her as a Group One horse and the Toorak (1600m) has been on her program all spring.

Zahra said Response had trained on and that the three weeks between runs was "perfect for her".

"We have learned from years gone by that you have got to properly space the runs of mares like her," Zahra said.

"I reckon she is at her best now. She looks unbelievable and has really filled out.

"We were rapt with the way she handled it last start and if she gets all the luck she's good enough to win again."

Meanwhile, trainer Mick Price is upbeat about the chances of Spacecraft who joined his stable this spring and has developed into a Toorak contender.

He rates the Galileo four-year-old alongside his past Toorak winners Red Dazzler (2006) and Alamosa (2008) and his rating has jumped from 85 to 104 with city wins at his last three starts.

Price is banking on a genuine pace and Damien Oliver's guile to compensate for barrier 13.

"D Oliver is on and he knows the horse, and hopefully there is a bit of speed on and they break up a bit so he can slot in somewhere," Price said.

"The horse is flying and I am really happy with him.

"I think it is a nice race for him."
