Dual Melbourne Cup winning trainer Dermot Weld has taken a swipe at Australian authorities for not paying travel costs for international horses coming to the spring carnival.

The Irish trainer is the only European to win Australia's most famous race, claiming the Cup with Vintage Crop in 1993 and Media Puzzle in 2002.

The Weld-trained Profound Beauty was beaten by another Cup entrant, Sans Frontieres, in the Irish St Leger on Saturday (Sunday morning AEST).

Weld said the mare, who finished fifth in the 2008 Melbourne Cup, could take the cheaper route to Toronto instead of Melbourne.

"I'll speak with her owners and think about it," Weld told Sky Racing World.

"We'll look at everything.

"The Canadian International is another possible.

"The Canadians are very keen to get her.

"They pay the expenses unlike you in Australia - you don't pay the travelling costs to bring those horses like the Canadians do."

Vintage Crop earned $1.335 million for his win in 1993 while Media Puzzle collected $2.475 million.

Prizemoney of $115,000 is paid from sixth to 10th place.

While Weld is non-committal about the Australian trip, it's all systems go for the Jeremy Noseda-trained Sans Frontieres who has firmed to equal second favourite following the win.

"He's got a wonderful temperament this horse, and we haven't got any issues with him travelling," Barry Simpson, racing manager to owner Sir Robert Ogden, said.

"He goes into quarantine I think on the 23rd of this month."

The Irish St Leger was the first Group One victory for Sans Frontieres who was ridden by Frenchman Olivier Peslier.

Shocking remained TAB Sportsbet's $8 Cup favourite on Sunday ahead of So You Think and Sans Frontieres at $13 with Profound Beauty at $16 alongside Dariana.
