Trainer Guy Walter is not expecting too much too soon from impeccably-bred filly Wind Of Savannah but believes they will both learn from her debut at Canterbury.

Walter would be surprised if she won Wednesday's Freeway Hotel Artarmon Plate (1250m) but not surprised to see her race well.

Wind Of Savannah is one of the first crop by 2004 Cox Plate winner Savabeel who also ran second in the Victoria Derby that year.

Her dam Fayreform was a multiple Group One winner in New Zealand and excelled at weight-for-age.

"She is a very nice filly but I'm not expecting too much," Walter said.

"Hopefully her time will be next year as a three-year-old.

"But she has to start somewhere and she's ready to race so we will give her a go.

"She is very well bred and her breeding suggests she will be better later on over more ground."

There were 16 acceptances for the two-year-old maiden with a maximum of 12 to start.

David Payne, who produced a promising type in More Than Great to win on a wet track at Canterbury last week, said he would wait until the last minute to decide whether Helvetia would make her debut in the race.

"It depends on the weather," he said.

"I don't want to start her off on a wet track."

Robert Thompson has been booked for Wind Of Savannah while Blake Shinn is engaged for Helvetia.

Suspensions and injury curtailed Shinn's defence of the Sydney premiership with Hugh Bowman and Corey Brown settling down to fight it out over the next few weeks.

Brown, who won the title in 2001-02, evened the score at Randwick on Monday with an early double which was countered immediately by his rival.

Gai Waterhouse has a 7-1/2 win buffer over Peter Snowden who has four runners scheduled for Canterbury to Waterhouse's one.

Canterbury was rated a heavy eight on Tuesday afternoon.
