Rangirangdoo has earned a few less than complimentary nicknames since his defeat in the Chipping Norton Stakes but trainer Chris Waller is maintaining the faith ahead of Saturday's Ranvet Stakes.

Rangirangdon't and Rangiransecond were just a couple of suggestions after he started favourite in the Warwick Farm feature over 1600 metres last Saturday week only to be outgunned by Theseo.

He will take Theseo on again in the Group One Ranvet at Rosehill with Waller changing tack to step Rangirangdoo up to 2000 metres.

His only other attempt at the distance was in the Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington last spring when he started favourite and finished seventh to Scenic Shot.

"The Mackinnon was at the end of a long campaign," Waller said.

"In terms of the future I want to give him an honest attempt at 2000 metres because that will tell us where we should be heading in the spring.

"If it doesn't work out it's easy to bring him back.

"The Doncaster over 1600 metres is his goal. The other option as a lead-up was the George Ryder but I think it is going to be a stellar race this year.

"The Ranvet might not be as tough because the horses that ran in the delayed Australian Cup might not handle the back-up.

"Rangi is doing everything right in our book. We are still learning about the horse and hopefully we haven't learnt yet how good he is."

With Corey Brown suspended, Tim Clark again takes the reins on Rangirangdoo who will race without blinkers, something Waller believes will help.

"He had a habit of laying in but he is pretty good now," Waller said.

"I think taking the blinkers off will help him relax."

There were 16 entries for the Ranvet with Waller also nominating The Embassy and Alexander Of Hales who ran one-two in the Group Three Randwick City Stakes (2000m) on Saturday.

Alcopop, who missed the Chipping Norton Stakes due to a less than satisfactory blood count, is entered along with the Lee Freedman-trained Speed Gifted who disappointed in the Chipping Norton.

Rangirangdoo and the Gai Waterhouse-trained More Joyous are the early equal favourites for the Doncaster on April 17 at $7 with TAB Sportsbet.
