The stop-start career of Double Dare is in active mode again as the seven-year-old prepares for another attack on the Stradbroke Handicap.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding has an abundance of talent but wind problems have hampered him over the years.

He hasn't won since March of 2008 but performed well in three subsequent Group One starts in May and June of that year including fourth to Racing To Win in the All-Aged Stakes and fifth in the Doomben 10,000 won by Apache Cat.

He was then a close third in the Stradbroke Handicap behind Mr Baritone and Hard To Catch, beaten a half head and a long head.

He tuned up for his next trip to Brisbane where he runs first-up on Saturday with a barrier trial win at Rosehill on Friday.

"He went well in the trial," Waller said.

"He has had wind problems which is always a concern.

"It takes its toll and doesn't get any better as they get older but I am very happy with him.

"He will leave on Monday and the plan is to run in the Doomben 10,000 and Stradbroke.

"He is entered for the BTC Cup at Doomben on Saturday but I will also enter him for the 1100 metre race on the day and make up my mind later in the week which he runs in."

Double Dare is currently at $61 to win the BTC Cup (1200m) with stablemate Danleigh at $8.50 but not scheduled to start.

Waller said the All-Aged Stakes winner would be saved for the Doomben 10,000 two weeks later.

The trainer also plans to take 2008 Doncaster Handicap winner Triple Honour to Brisbane but has yet to finalise his program.

Apache Cat is favourite for the BTC Cup and also the Doomben 10,000 while All Silent heads the markets for the Stradbroke Handicap on June 6 with Danleigh second elect in both races.
