Chris Waller marked the halfway mark of the racing season by bringing up a half-century of Sydney winners in the unlikely guise of African Prince.

The least favoured of Waller's stable trio in the Honouring AJC 50 Year Members Handicap (2000m), African Prince ($8.50) was ridden confidently by Hugh Bowman who had him stalking the leader Aiglon.

In the straight, African Prince strode to the lead and defied the challenge by favourite Fiscal ($2.30) to win by two lengths with Patrician's Glory ($7), another Waller runner, a head away third.

Carnegies Cruzin ($4.60), the third of the stablemates, wasn't suited by the tempo and finished sixth.

Waller leads the trainers' premiership from Peter Snowden and Gai Waterhouse with the three well clear of their rivals.

"We're halfway through the season and we usually finish strongly so hopefully that's the case again," Waller said.

"But I'm sure Gai and Peter will do the same.

"We'll take every Saturday as it comes and every winner.

"We don't change anything, we just keep trying to place the horses in the best races for them and African Prince is a good example.

"He has been a great old horse. He hasn't won many races but he has won a lot of prizemoney for his owners."

The win was African Prince's fourth from 42 starts which have also yielded 18 placings and prizemoney approaching $350,000.

The Waller-trained Red Tracer made it a race-to-race double for the stable when she won the Bosco Bulldogs Handicap (1200m) with Nash Rawiller aboard.

Bowman is locked in a three-way battle for the jockeys' title with Rawiller and Corey Brown.

All three riders have a premiership to their name and at this point in the season are clear of Glyn Schofield.

Snowden won his first premiership last season when he beat Waller and had two early winners at Rosehill on Saturday.
