Emerging stayer Voice Coach will face his first serious test at Rosehill on Saturday when he steps up to stakes company in the Listed Premier's Cup.

The staying find of the Sydney winter, the English import has not been beaten since trainer Chris Waller put blinkers on him three starts ago.

Waller has tentatively earmarked the Group One Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) at Randwick in October as a target but concedes the lightly-raced five-year-old is a race-by-race proposition considering he has been campaigning since May.

"He's holding together nicely in his stable life and his trackwork but 'til you get to race day you don't know," Waller said.

"It's one race at a time with him.

"He's had a few runs and it's his first preparation since arriving from England so I don't expect him to stay up for too long.

"We'll take one step at a time, it's the right time of year to keep them racing if they're good enough."

Voice Coach's career has been well managed by Waller who bought the gelding as a tried horse in England last year.

He is one of several European gallopers Waller has purchased overseas to race in Australia and so far the venture has proved a great success with the likes of Shadow Cabinet, Bright Mind and Kossack, who scored at his Australian debut at Randwick on Tuesday, all winning races.

Just how far Voice Coach can go Waller hopes to find out in the Premier's Cup, although he concedes the gelding could be vulnerable dropping back from the 2000 metres he has won over at his past three starts and stepping up to stakes company.

"He's had a pretty sheltered preparation so far," Waller said.

"The 1800 metres is short of his best distance and he is coming into stakes company for the first time."

Voice Coach will be joined in the Premier's Cup by stablemates Bellagio Wynn and Enzedex Eagle with Waller electing not to pay up for Epsom Handicap hopeful Rangirangdoo who is likely to run in next weekend's Tramway Handicap.

Bellagio Wynn has twice been placed in Group Three company while Enzedex Eagle, who is being aimed at the Wyong and Newcastle Cups, won the Manion Cup during the autumn.

"They're all about 90 per cent fit and they will all improve from Saturday's race," Waller said.

"They're all hopefully heading towards nice races this spring.

"They are heading in different directions and hopefully they will give us some strength in the staying races."
