Vigor has retained his place as Caulfield Cup favourite with his solid sixth placing behind Heart Of Dreams in the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield.

Damien Oliver, who rode Vigor when he won the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 5 and again on Saturday, said the O'Reilly five-year-old was still on target.

"He's going great. He won't know himself in the Caulfield Cup with 51kg," Oliver said.

Vigor's trainer Danny O'Brien won the 2007 Caulfield Cup with another son of O'Reilly, Master O'Reilly who was seventh in Saturday's Underwood.

Maldivian (fourth) and Red Ruler (fifth) also put in good performances from a Caulfield Cup viewpoint and, like Vigor, both will have their next starts in the Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday week.

Oliver rode the Anthony Cummings-trained Red Lord to victory in the Naturalism Stakes (2000m) and declared the Redoute's Choice six-year-old as an emerging chance in the $2.5 million 2400m feature on October 17.

"He quickened really well. It was a good strong race and he's a sneaky light weight chance in the Caulfield Cup," he said.

Saturday's victory gives Red Lord an automatic start in the Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 17 but he is liable for a penalty.

The gelding currently has 51kg.

Red Lord ran on strongly to beat Light Vision by a long neck with Majestical a similar margin away third.

Vigor is at $6 with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Predatory Pricer ($9) and New Zealand mare Daffodil who is into $10 following her win in the Windsor Park Plate at Hastings on Saturday.

Underwood winner Heart Of Dreams, runner-up Whobegotyou and third placegetter Predatory Pricer are all heading towards Cox Plate starts.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh, delighted with the runs of Whobegotyou and Maldivian, indicated the latter might run in both the Caulfield Cup and the Cox Plate as he did last year.

Maldivian ran ninth to Godolphin-owned All The Good in last year's Caulfield Cup before winning the Cox Plate.

Kavanagh said 2008 Caulfield Guineas winner Whobegotyou would have his next run in the Yalumba Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield in three weeks before running in the Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley two weeks later on October 24.

"He was winning in three-year-old grade so well and effortlessly, but this is a lot stronger racing now and it took a little bit out of him," he said.

Jockey Michael Rodd was more than happy with Whobegotyou's performance.

"He just didn't have that dash he normally has. It was probably a bit tough backing up after last week (when he won the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley)," he said.

"I got to the front about the 100 metres but he had to make a long run without not much cover which made it a bit hard."
