Victorian owner Fred D'Amico has been the big winner from a new racing concept which has delivered him two stakes victories in less than two months.

Two-year-old Dark Valley won his race debut in Wednesday's Listed Debutants Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield and is among a band of horses D'Amico has bought from BC3 Thoroughbreds.

Another of his purchases, Deer Valley, won the Group Three Silver Shadow Stakes in August just two days after being bought.

Former Group One-winning jockey Simon Marshall is a partner in the BC3 operation which buys horses, generally yearlings, and then sells them on after educating and preparing them to a point where they can go into full training.

Trained by Darren Weir, Dark Valley was backed from $6 to $4.80 and showcased his talent by scoring a last-stride win over Stratum filly Crystal Lily, trained by Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra.

Fastnet Rock colt Ebony Rock, trained by David Hayes, was 1-1/4 lengths length away third.

Marshall rides all the BC3 horses to get a feel for their prospects and said that Dark Valley was "something special".

He said Weir had done an exceptional job to get the horse to the races and win so early in his career as he was a colt suited to longer races.

"I picked him out as a miler (1600m) four months ago and really he should be out in the paddock on the spring grass," Marshall said.

"He is going to be better as a late two-year-old and three-year-old but he was gifted from day one and is such a natural."

Dark Valley is by Johannesburg from Musical Chimes who won six races from 1100 metres to 1800 metres and cost $105,000 as a yearling.

A day after Deer Valley's Silver Shadow win, BC3 at their first preview day on August 23 sold Dark Valley on to D'Amico and his partners for $210,000.

All up BC3 cleared 16 of 30 horses on its books on the day with Gai Waterhouse and Hayes among the other buyers.
