Punters are warming to multiple Group One winner Tuesday Joy for Saturday's Apollo Stakes at Rosehill as word spreads about her outstanding build-up to the race.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained mare, who completed the Ranvet Stakes (1900m) - BMW (2400m) double last year, is having her first start since her 10th to Littorio in the Turnbull Stakes.

Tuesday Joy bled from both nostrils during the Turnbull, putting an end to her spring campaign.

TAB Sportsbet's Daniel Happell said Tuesday Joy was the best backed runner in the Group Two Apollo Stakes (1400m).

The mare has tightened from her opening quote of $6.50 into $4.60 while the Peter Snowden-trained favourite Desuetude has attracted some interest but remains at his opening price of $2.30.

Other movers in betting are the David Payne-trained Gallant Tess who has firmed from $8.50 into $6.50.

Waterhouse's stable representative David Meijer, who has been a constant companion to Tuesday Joy from day one, said the mare worked outstandingly during the week.

"I watched her work with Ashikaga on Wednesday morning and went home very pleased and excited about her prospects for Saturday," Meijer said.

"She is right on her fighting weight of 522kg."

The Hawkes training partnership has elected to bypass the Apollo and with Mentality and floated the horse to Melbourne on Thursday night to run in Saturday's Group Three Carlyon Cup (1400m) at Caulfield.

Last year's Group One Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) winner Newport is rated a $101 chance in the Apollo as he takes the next step in his Sydney Cup (3200m) campaign.

Trainer Paul Perry said the six-year-old pulled up well after his first-up pipe opener in the Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on February 7.

"He's come through the run very nicely and everything is on track for the Sydney Cup later on," Perry said.

"We've got him nominated for a few races like the BMW and Doncaster but the picture will become clearer after Saturday."

Newport, who won the 2007 Brisbane Cup (2400m), scored over Saturday's distance at Newcastle when racing first-up in August last year.

Happell said one of the best supported runners for the day at Rosehill was the Darren Smith-trained Madame Pedrille who runs in the Listed Triscay Stakes (1200m).

The mare, who has won two of her three starts, opened at $15 and has been crunched into $8.50.

The Chris Waller-trained Enzedex Eagle is the $3.30 favourite in the Listed Parramatta Cup (2000m) ahead of Vision And Power at $3.60 in what has been a quiet betting race.
