Brisbane stakeswinner Tierqualo is set to head to Sydney on Saturday after wet weather again postponed his return to racing on the weekend.

The Kelly Doughty-trained four-year-old was among the acceptors for Saturday's Channel 7 Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm but the meeting was abandoned on Friday due to the state of the track.

Doughty had already been looking for alternatives for Tierqualo, who is unsuited on wet tracks.

"If it keeps up I'll nominate him for a race at Rosehill in Sydney next week," Doughty said on Thursday.

Tierqualo, who is unbeaten in two first-up runs, hasn't raced since finishing down the course in the Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm in June.

He earned a winter carnival campaign with a Listed race win at Doomben in April and Doughty was keen to test him at stakes level again again.

"I had the Goldmarket Handicap picked out as his second-up run so he's a long way behind," the trainer said.

The $100,000 Listed Goldmarket was run last Monday.

"You can see that I've been waiting a while to get him back to the races. It's pretty frustrating," Doughty said.

Tierqualo's only run on a rain-affected track resulted in a 2-3/4-length ninth of 15 starters in the Gold Coast Guineas.

"He didn't handle the (soft) ground that day. He just doesn't get through it," Doughty said.

Tierqualo will be out to add his name to the growing list of Queenslanders to win in Sydney in recent weeks.

They include Spechenka, Havatryst, Falino, Streets Away, Outstandingly and Femina Fashion, a winner at Randwick on Saturday where fellow northerners Havatryst and Joint Chiefs racked up placings in their races.

Rain in Brisbane and the Gold Coast on Sunday is expected to continue for at least the next two days with some relief in sight later in the week.
