Trainer Maryann Thexton is keen to test Chilled over more ground this campaign but a step up in distance could be put on hold at Doomben on Wednesday.

Chilled is entered for the TCL Electronics Handicap (1650m) but Thexton is undecided whether the four-year-old will start or be reserved for a class six over 1600 metres at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The son of Redoute's Choice has 58.5 kilograms in Wednesday's assignment compared to 54.5kg at Eagle Farm.

"The weight he's got tomorrow doesn't bother me as I know he can carry it," Thexton said.

"But I think he looks better placed on Saturday and I'm in two minds where to go with him."

Chilled is one of six mounts for jockey Stathi Katsidis who has been in remarkable form since making his comeback in late June following a 14-month break due to injury and disqualification.

In his short period back in the saddle, Katsidis has claimed three Listed races in the Toowoomba Cup (Jussemi), Grafton Cup (Castle Heights) and Tattersall's Mile (Jacqueline Rouge) as well as riding a host of other winners.

Thexton rated Chilled highly enough to send interstate as a three-year-old last year but she has no plans to head back this spring.

Chilled had one start in Sydney finishing fifth to Dreamscape in the Group Two Stan Fox Stakes (1400m) at Randwick last September before heading to Melbourne to finish sixth to Sarem in a 1600-metre Three-Year-old Plate at Caulfield on October 15.

"He carried 58 kilos in Melbourne and wasn't beaten far and Orca ran second that day," Thexton said.

"Before I took him away he won with 58 kilos at Eagle Farm so I know he can carry the weight if I run him tomorrow."

Chilled has only won three of his 13 starts but Thexton isn't disappointed with the statistic.

In his only two starts this campaign, Chilled was runner-up on both occasions at Eagle Farm last month.

He resumed with a close second to Sword Of Damocles in a 1200-metre class four on July 8 before being runner-up last start to Black Morgan in a 1400-metre class six on July 18.

"His first-up second was a good effort," she said.

"He had to give the winner who led all the way too much start.

"Chilled was six lengths off the winner coming to the turn and he made up good ground."

Thexton is hopeful Chilled might develop into a useful "miler" as he gets older.

"Stathi has ridden him in both his runs this campaign and he thinks he'll run 2000 metres," Thexton said.

"If he can there's some nice races that should suit down the track."
