Owner Gary Adrian showed he was a shrewd judge of horses as well as in business when The Clandy Man Can booked a long-range winter carnival campaign at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

Adrian paid only $8000 at the Magic Millions sales for The Clandy Man Can who took his career earnings to more than $63,000 with his sixth win in Wednesday's www.brc.com.au Handicap (1800m).

The six-year-old excelled in the slushy conditions to score by four lengths over the favourite Commanche Warrior with Flypass a further three lengths away third.

The win was another triumph for Toowoomba's Tony Gollan who was handed the son of Clang to train after the gelding had previous stints with Kevin Kemp and Rochelle Pereira.

"Tony's plan with him is to aim for the Toowoomba Cup next year," Adrian said.

"He loves the wet as he showed today but I doubt he'll go for a break just now while this rain is hanging around.

"He's won on the cushion track so the Toowoomba Cup looks an ideal race for him.

"I've got five horses with Tony and I've also got another in work in Toowoomba with Kevin Kemp."

Adrian is a legal cost consultant who acts a middleman between solicitors and their clients.

"I assess the legal fees for solicitors. It's a bit like a middleman between solicitors and clients," he said.

Adrian has had only moderate success over the years and rated Mindil Beach as the best galloper he's owned.

"He was by Ombra Della Sera and ended up winning five races before he was killed in an accident 18 months ago," he said.

"He won a barrier trial by about 10 lengths at Gatton but he kept going and crashed into the barriers and was killed.

"The accident put his rider Skye Bogenhuber in hospital for three months."

Jockey Larry Cassidy followed up his win on The Clandy Man Can with victory aboard Hirviente in the www.racingjobs.com.au Maiden Plate (1500m).

Hirviente, another cheap buy at $6000, is part-owned by Daniel Benton, the son of Emirates Racing Association chief executive and former Victoria Racing Club manager Les Benton.

Trainer David Murphy has always had a big opinion of the daughter of Iglesia despite her four previous defeats.

"She's always had the ability but she's been a little field shy ever since she got a bad bump in the barriers one day," Murphy said.

"She's going to make a nice stayer and I'll give her one more run before getting her ready for the longer races next year."
