AUSTRALIAN racing fans will not see international sprint star Rocket Man next spring after the three-year-old was forced to the sidelines until 2010 with a leg injury in Singapore yesterday, reports The Age.

It says: Rocket Man, who won his first seven starts before a brave defeat by Hong Kong champion Sacred Kingdom in the group 1 Krisflyer Sprint on his home track in Singapore in May, was set to race on Cox Plate day as well as in the group 1 sprint on the final day of the Flemington carnival next spring.

But the three-year-old broke down at trackwork yesterday morning and x-rays later confirmed that he had fractured a cannon bone and would require surgery.

His trainer Patrick Shaw told the Singapore Turf Club website that he favoured an operation rather than wait for his leg to heal naturally as it meant the horse could be back racing by early next year rather than spend 12 months or more on the sidelines.
